I am a mechanical engineer working at NASA Glenn in Cleveland, OH. I am a fairly obsessive retirement planner who has been dumping money into index funds through retirement accounts for a while now. I started thinking about rental real estate because various valuation metrics, such as the Shiller P/E ratio predict poor stock market returns over the next 8-10 years. I took a loan out on my retirement account and purchased 2 rental properties very close to my primary residence. They performed well and I used the cash flow to purchase my third last year. I plan on using future cash flow to fund additional investments in either Real Estate, small businesses, or index funds, as economic conditions dictate
