About myself

Being a research scientist by trade, an engineer by training, and a doctor by conferral, I work for a top-ranking Fortune 500 company in the high-tech sector. I am a proud father of two. Among many others, such as fixing 10-min breakfasts and remembering books for the library day, my responsibilities also include investing and diversifying as smart as I can for my family's future. Experience: In early childhood, I was an apprentice to my father, for a good number of years, who was an electrical engineer. My work included, but was not limited to, electrical, commercial telco, painting, used inventory beautification and store-front sweeping. I carried on with a promotion to resident handyman for our family-at-large, throughout the years to follow. More recent years brought in opportunities to acquire properties for my own family, with a good amount of self-directed rehab work. Having done demo, hardwood floors, drywall, painting, electricity, plumbing, and landscaping for those projects, I have had enough time to think in crawlspaces, attics and anywhere in between, and learnt to appreciate the fine craftsmanship of a truly skilled genuine contractor (i.e. not me). From a strict REI perspective, I found, analyzed and bought two SFRs, both conforming to 1% rule, without knowing anything about percent-rules, worked with an investment-savvy agent, without knowing exactly why it even matters, and trained my tenants well, without knowing what it might take. Looking back to myself in 2012, I was a fluky investor. Now, I now only know just a little better, largely due to BP, thus I am a Pro member, more than anything, to thank those making BP load up with upstanding content, every time I type it into my browser. I recently started participating in crowd-funding of out-of-state real estate projects via debt-deals. Real Estate Goals: I'd like to continue investing in real estate as long as my overall investment diversification goals are aligned with REI. I want to keep my investments close by (i.e. short driving distance), except when I have trusted boots on ground for remote sites. I don't have X-many properties in Y-many years kind of goals, though I have a detailed master plan in-effect for financial independence and early retirement (from rat's race) in about 15-years. I'd like to use REI opportunistically, evaluated on a deal-by-deal basis, towards that grand goal. Given above, and the current state of the markets I have tendency to invest in, I am mostly preparing for the next buyers-market cycle and I educate myself by reading, actively analyzing and attempting to offer on deals that kind of make sense even today. Those quite limited opportunities mostly are flips. I don't feel overly comfortable with BRRRR deals that have nothing but negative cash flow while you wait for seasoning. I believe my risk tolerance is not allowing for appreciation-only deals. Currently Seeking: Mentors who have seen it all, and open to share their wisdom. Wholesalers with good local leads. Partners with non-marginal deals under-contract and are in need of some money and some sweat equity. Friends to brainstorm with, if my limited experience is of any value.
