I'm an architect who has been designing custom homes and remodels for other people for decades. Now I'm ready for a change. I've been wanting to fix up houses for most of my adult life, and I decided it's time to do something about it. I'm interested in both profit and making the world a better place, planning to make each home not only more energy-efficient and durable, but also more like a personal nature paradise. Since writing the above two paragraphs, my partner (who is a General Contractor--nice pairing!) and I have bought and rehabbed a three-unit rental, and fixed and flipped 5 mobile homes in a park. I find that I enjoy doing the physical labor, and I like making delightful, affordable homes available to good people (the others I try to forget...). Experience: In the past year, I've acquired a three-unit stick-built property, two mobile homes in a park, and two lots designated for mobile homes in a subdivision--all in northern California. My life is now dominated by rehabbing these fixers and renting them out. I'm surprised to find that I (mostly) enjoy landlording! I've bought my properties through tax-deed auctions, MLS listings/realtors, and word of mouth (helpful in the mobile home realm). Real Estate Goals: Future fantasies include having a vacation rental and buying a mobile home park with my partner. Currently Seeking: A vacation! R&R! :-)
