I began working at a factory making flexible packaging products in 1998. Over the next 22 years, I learned the trade very well, honed my leadership skills, and spent the last 6 years as a General Manager for a small company. I was responsible for over 150 employees and more than $30MM in assets. I enjoyed my career in manufacturing and leading, developing, and helping people reach their goals (whether they be personal or professional). I tried property ownership in the early 2000's when living in Tennessee. I purchased a home and rented it out for nearly 2 years. The first 18 months we great! I managed the property myself. The later 6 months proved to be disastrous. I did not properly perform my due diligence when deciding to hire a realtor/property manager and ended up getting tenants that were "friends" of theirs. This resulted in no signed leases, huge damage to the property, and thousands of dollars in losses that I was, frankly, not capable to handle at that time. I had a bad taste for Real Estate for some time even though what happened was 100% preventable had I better educated myself. We moved to Texas in 2016 and purchased a home. The home needed some work and I didn't the vast majority of the repairs and updates over the next 3 years. One of the larger projects I took on myself was the inground pool. I put new concrete under the pump equipment, tore out the old plaster and replaced with new, primed, and sealed the pool with only the help of my wife. Saved thousands and the work was excellent. We sold the home in 2019 and purchase a home that was more of a challenge. Over the next 15 months, I renovated this house as well. Over 2000sqft of floor had to be stripped, levelled, and reinstalled. Electrical had to be rerun and repaired (I am thankful for my electrical training and expertise from all those years in industrial maintenance). Plumbing had to be redone in all 3 bathrooms and the kitchen. We added a 400sqft patio and build a cover with electrical for it. During this time, I decided that I was tired of working for someone else as I had discovered a new passion for houses and wanted to start my own business to help me learn more about getting going on my own. I started up an online retail store focused on travel accessories and items. Sales never really took hold and all came to a screeching halt when COVID began. My wife and I had plenty of savings at the time and decided to sell our home in the hot DFW market in December of 2020 (made nearly 30%!). Since then, we spent a few month in Mexico on the Sea of Cortez relaxing and educating myself about Real Estate. I decided to get my Mortgage Broker license in Texas. Within a few weeks, I took the courses and passed my SAFE Exam. Since passing the exam, my family and I decided to go on a trip out west and explore many of the National Parks. Our path took us from Texas through New Mexico, Arizona, all the way north through California, into Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. We are lastly headed back towards Texas through Colorado, then its off to the Midwest to spend some time with family. During these travels, I have been educating myself and studying Real Estate Investing strategies. I am arming myself with knowledge so I can be a savvy investor. In addition to my mortgage brokering, I have grown my network substantially over the past few months and am currently connecting with individuals where we can each support each other to reach our Real Estate goals. I have been connected on Bigger Pockets for well over a year now and have made many new contacts and met many clients as well. The commercial and investment side of the business has grown exponentially as I cater to many repeat clients as well. I can't always promise the best solution for every situation, but I can almost promise that I will have some kind of solution for nearly every situation.
