I am currently active duty military, but retiring after 26 years. My family and I are making a bold move up to Maine, where we will happily be labeled "from away". In almost all of my military assignments, we've purchased a house and then sold them after 1-6 years. Not until getting ready for my retirement transition did we discover how we should have been thinking about our purchases and turning them into income producing assets. Therefore, at the tender age of 43, I am waiting to purchase my first buy and hold property with the sole purpose of building an additional income stream outside of my W2. Real Estate Goals: Invest in SFRs, duplexes, and 4 unit apartments, enough to create financial independence by 2031 (55 yrs old). Educate my boys on the possibility of financial independence through the power of hard work and real estate. Educate/mentor students on benefits of frugality and putting money to work for you from an early age.
