Hey guys, I've always had a passion for investing and making money in creative ways. When I was in college I used a large chunk of my scholarship money to invest in biotech stocks and options and I doubled my money, a gain of approximately $16,000 at the time. It was great BUT it was somewhat risky and I hated the lack of control - you're not the CEO of the company, who gets paid millions regardless if the stock goes up or down! Once I moved to the US from Canada, I couldn't work until I had a green card so I had a whole lot of time on my hands. I read a lot about real estate investing so I decided to jump in and do it. But.. you can't get a loan when you don't have a credit history and a W2 job. I was pretty frustrated. I had a decent amount of cash saved up but not enough to buy a decent house outright. That's when I heard Dave Van Horn's podcast #28 about notes. I had never even heard of a note before but it sounded interesting, good returns AND the prices are low enough that I could pay cash. So I started buying notes for my own small portfolio, learning as I worked on them. I was fortunate enough to hit several homerun deals that more than made up for a few costly newbie mistakes. The past few years I've started building a portfolio of rentals in Memphis.
