Experience: I started my REI journey in 2009 with SFH house hack.It was a HUD foreclosure home with minor (< 5K repair). Fixed most of the house myself and had a roommate all the time. Once married in 2012, moved out of house and converted to rental property. In past 4 years, I was able to experience all facets of managing rental property ( AC breakdown, water heater leak in addict leading to secondary water damage in house, tenant sneaking in cat and/or boyfriend, tenant behind rental payments with few months and many more). After completing my family (one boy and a girl) and going through Oil & Gas cyclical cycle, I decided to take control of my destiny in my own hands. Last year, I started to explore different business (REI, consulting, gas station, daycare, trucking and restaurant) ideas and realize that other than REI there was very limited information online and local support group, on top of high capital cost. Whereas, REI had wealth of information online, books and local support groups. I decided to focus on REI, as it is relatively low risk for newbie and can be started passively. Real Estate Goals: My 2018 goal is to own 2-4 SFH buy and hold properties and/or 1-2 FLIP properties. Currently Seeking: I am currently seeking to connect with like minded people which have the similar goals and hopefully partner with them.
