Part-time landlord using RE investments is a passive income to build equity so we have the extra income to travel, and help grow our wealth for retirement since we both work in nonprofit so not making a ton of $$ there. Love following RE trends, especially in the DC market. We have a few rentals, managing all our properties ourselves (always a learning process!). We are not handy at all, thus hiring handymen, contractors for everything. It's critical to have reliable & trustworthy help, plumbers, HVAC guys & handymen on speed dial. Tips for being a great landlord with less headaches: 1. Upgrade and take care of your property. You'll get better pool of quality tenants. 2. Fix any major issues right away and your tenants will see you want the place to be kept in good condition. As they're expected pay rent on time, respond quickly and fix problems asap. 3. Always be on the tenant's side (even when you know they are WRONG!) and show you understand their situation.
