I am 20-year​ retired military officer USAF. I grew up in San Antonio and now live in Austin, TX. After I left the USAF, I became a Financial Advisor specializing in retirement planning. During my time as an advisor I began to invest in real estate. After 20 years as an advisor I sold my practice and now manage my investment portfolio to stay busy. I am a self-starter and love to dabble in all types of investments. Real Estate Experience: I became a real estate investor by accident. When I was in the Air Force, I was transferred to another duty station and could not sell my house. I ended up renting it for five years before I was able to sell it. Even though I sold it for basically what I bought it for, I walked away with a 30k check due to having refi into a 15year mortgage. It really wasn't until years later that I got more involved as a real estate investor. In 2002 my son graduated high school and when he attended college, I was simply looking for a better way to cover the housing cost associated with sending a child to college. This is when I discovered duplex investing. I was able to buy a duplex and even though my son lived on one side with two of his friends (the other side rented to students as well) I was able to make a very nice positive cash flow. Three years later his sister joined him in college and the both of them were in each side of the duplex with 2 other friends each. Essentially, I was able to send the children to college without incurring living expenses and still having positive cash flow. The light bulb came on, and I discovered my WHY! In 2005 when I realized that this duplex investing could substantially augment my projected retirement income. I now own 7 duplexes, 1 4plex, 1 townhome, and my own personal home. I am always keeping my eye out for a great deal. Real Estate Goals: Acquire and maintain rental property to substantially provide income in retirement to sustain a high standard of living.
