My husband and I have been in real estate for over 16 years in Central NJ while maintaining our full-time corporate careers. Donnell is an engineer and I am an attorney. We began as landlords with four duplexes and a seventeen unit apartment building that we self-managed. Over the last three years we have focused on flipping houses in the Union County area in New Jersey. We take on all levels of rehab, from cosmetic, to gut renovations to add-a-levels and new construction. Our goal is to invest the proceeds of our flips to purchase small multi-families and then scale to larger units for increased cash flow. Our buy and hold experience has only been in NJ, but we are beginning to research other markets that appear to be much better cash flow markets, such as Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Memphis. So anyone with expertise either investing or as a property manager in those areas, please reach out to me!! Although the appreciation in NJ over the last few years has been great allowing us to capitalize on the flip market, cash flow is what we want to enable us to retire early from our corporate careers. To date we have used only private money from friends and family as well as our own funds to do our flips. We are open to meeting new partners who want to take either a passive role by lending funds to us, or want to actively invest and joint venture on flips. There are unique challenges to holding down full-time corporate job, having three kids and building a real estate investment business. We love sharing what we have learned about investing. We are especially passionate about speaking to other couples with families about how we manage it all and about the different roles we each have in developing the business which make it work for us.
