My interest in real estate was sparked by my motivation to become more knowledgeable in the purchase and sale of my personal residence. I joined a real estate club for the sole purpose of understanding the prerequisites of turning a one-time profit, but, as well, I found myself learning, by osmosis, the potential of investment properties. As in with my own homes, I'd like to put the training and experience I've had (in everything from professional landscape design to certified stager) to use for profit (and fun). I love learning about hands-on rehab but am still a bit overwhelmed by the amount and scope of the decisions to be made. I'm a dual US/Canadian citizen, born in California, presently resident in Vancouver, Canada. Because of the high cost of local real estate ($1m plus for SFR, I am looking to relocate somewhere, most likely within the US, where 1) the economy is promising but 2) where I can still afford to purchase with my available capital and guaranteed income, 3) where I can readily adjust to the climate, and, 4) perhaps most importantly for me right now, where I can be close enough to oversee future investments. My experience with investment so far has been long-distance investing in Arizona, and it has not been especially positive. I'd now feel more comfortable being close to my rehabs/investments before really beginning to build a portfolio.
