I call myself an "accidental investor," at least initially, due to trying to save money while my middle son was in college in Chattanooga. Once I added up housing savings for him, rent income from his friends, and expected appreciation (not even knowing tax savings), it was a no-brainer! We did the deal, and it killed! That gave us the fever to do it again and again, and now has launched us into REI investing. We have rentals of various types (student, STR & traditional) and also do rehabs. My wife and I are taking the next steps to ramp up our investing and securing the financial independence that comes with it.
