San Diego-based Out-of-State Real Estate Investor. Allow me to introduce myself—I’m **Veera**. I’ve been able to combine my academic background with a growing passion for real estate investing. Over the past four years, I’ve built a portfolio of **16 properties (~$3M)**, which has been a challenging but rewarding journey. I’m also a **co-owner of a short-term rental management company** with my husband, where we actively invest in and operate STRs—primarily in Midwest markets like Indianapolis. Much of what we’ve learned has come from being in the trenches ourselves, and we try to share those lessons where helpful. A few insights I often see help newer STR investors avoid costly mistakes: • **Market > property** – regulation stability and demand matter more than aesthetics • **Buying right matters most** – conservative underwriting and strong negotiations create margin • **Design impacts revenue** – layout, guest avatar, and durability outperform cosmetic upgrades • **Launch & pricing are ongoing** – early pricing strategy and systems affect long-term results Outside of investing, I’m also a **mom to a one-year-old**, and balancing family with real estate and business ownership has been one of the most fulfilling (and humbling) parts of the journey.
