I started out as a real estate investor when I moved internationally to work with refugees in the Middle East. We owned our home and wanted to rent it out rather than sell it. I enjoyed the process and soon bought and renovated our second home. I renovated the basement into a two bedroom apartment and found renters right away. I have been managing these two properties from abroad and have great reliable renters but now I plan to return to the states and get more serious about investing. We are currently looking at buying a third property which has two houses and the possibility of another basement apartment. We would live in the main house on this new property. This would give us 6 units between 3 properties. I am investing in Salem, Oregon and I like to find older homes near downtown that need some updating. I have some construction experience and I enjoy personally working on the homes and managing the properties.
