Kezzy, welcome to BiggerPockets!  My favorite tip to newcomers is to set up key word alerts to find out about topics and geographies that interest you.  Also, to get the tagging to work, start typing @ and a few letters of the user name, then look for it to pop up on the bottom left of the screen.  Chose the name to get an active link.
