Advice for a Newby looking to invest in Allentown, PA

Hello BP Community,

I am relatively new to real estate investing and am currently looking for my first deal in Allentown, PA. I am not too familiar with the area as I am from NY but I am aware of the benefits of investing in the area. I am just trying to gather some information to learn as much as I can about Allentown. 

Are their parts of the area I should be avoiding? 

I truly appreciate any and all advice/comments.

Hey Kevin, 

Welcome to BP. I'm located a little north of Allentown and the Lehigh Valley. There is a good meetup group that specializes in that area.

They have their online zoom meeting the 2nd Thursday of every month.

There is another meetup that is more broad but has a few investors and wholesalers from Allentown that actually meets tonight at 8:35pm-10:30pm. If you are available it is free and open to all investors.

Welcome! I would say there are definitely areas to avoid, but it all depends on your strategy. The places I would avoid aren't necessarily the same places others would avoid. What makes you choose the Allentown area over say Stroudsburg or Scranton areas? @Mark Lladas has a group specifically for Northeast PA investors that has a lot of out-of-state investors like yourself.
