Denver forums and mentoring

Hello, I am starting my fix and flip business and I am looking to connect with experienced investors. I am looking for someone who is willing to teach me the ropes. I am willing to help with anything I can in return for guidance through my first few deals.

    Hi Pat -

A similar post was made yesterday that you may find helpful.

Something I wish I'd posted to my part of the thread about volunteering is to volunteer selflessly. Join your local professional organizations (REIs, etc.) and volunteer to help them with the things people are not helping with (non-real estate stuff). This exposes you to the investors in the REIs and is how I found my mentors. These guys are very busy. honestly, I wouldn't want someone with no experience "helping" me out. It'd be another job that I didn't have time for. On the other hand, I've found these are generous people who have been in our shoes at one point. If they see you hustling to help their organization, they are more likely to help you. And...let them come to you. I asked quick questions - but I kept my questions brief and to the point. Showed I was willing and wanting to learn. Educating myself (not a "get rich quick goof ball"). Before I knew it, the people I wanted to be around were reaching out to me. They first asked me to be on a committee (immediately say "yes", then figure out how to do it). Then they tell you where to go and what to do. It's a slow process.

Also, at the REI meetings, if someone presents at the meeting and offers their material, introduce yourself afterwards and ask for what they offered. Later send them a [i]hand written thank you note. Create connections with those you want to be mentored by. At the next meeting, briefly tell them what you did with the material they (generously) gave you.

Mentors are bombarded with people who want to take from them. Prove your character first. And respect their time.

    Hope this helps.

    Steph
