3 bed/2 bath home with a walkout basement that could easily be converted into a separate 1 bed/1bath unit with kitchenette. There is a separate outside door for the walkout basement...my question is: what would you do with the existing door at the top of the stairs between the main level of the house and the walkout basement? Do you add locks to both sides? Close it up?
I'm assuming there is a secondary exit for both units in case of emergency? I'd likely cover it up or put in a fire proof door. Check with your local laws as to what is required to make the basement a legal suite, they will have guidelines.
