When replacing interior doors in a rental property, particularly B/C apartments. Do you use the least expensive hollow core slabs or the more expensive solid slabs and why?
Solid, but MDF/molded, not wood. The hold up well, and "feel" better. And paint beautifully of course.
We had hollow core doors on our first personal residence. They looked and felt cheap, and at least three were crack even with just me and the wife with a very lower wear-and-tear lifestyle.
We put solid cores in everything now. It never fails, especially on our C level apartments the tenants just destroy hollow cores. We can replace it once for $250 or who knows how many times for $125 with a hollow core. Hollow cores seem to be magnets of destruction for us.
