Hello everybody, I'm a software engineer with some extra time and money and I recently decided to get myself into the real estate world. I've been reading posts here for quite some time and decided to take the next step in this journey.
I currently live in West Hartford and I'm looking for potential towns to invest in the area, mostly for rentals. From older posts I heard that New Britain and potentially Manchester could be good for cash flow and would like to get some input about that from anyone with more experience in the area. Specifically what areas in those towns should be avoided.
Also, I noticed that there's a meetup group for CT, but they're mainly focusing on the more southern part of CT, which I'm not as interested in, so if anyone knows about a different group for Hartford county, I would love to join and make more connections.
@Shahar Katz welcome to BP! I’m a newbie investor in Hartford county as well. I’ve done a fair amount of market research, I’d say you have your sights on the right areas. I’d also keep an eye on properties in East Hartford, you may find similar cash flow potential to New Britain. Yes, I would recommend connecting with Stephanie then. That should be easy enough. I think if you live in the area, it should be easy enough to drive through any area that you are looking at and get a feel for it. That'll give you a better idea than someone else's opinion of the area because you may have different criteria.
In terms of "good" areas or areas to stay away from in Manchester, or any other town. Around here, I feel like neighborhoods can go block to block. There certainly may be a street that you don't want to park on late at night and go for a stroll, but if you are focused on the property more than the neighborhood, you may be able to become the "best" property on the block, which wouldn't be so bad either! Wouldn't it feel good to be the catalyst that brings UP an area by new investment? :)
Short answer, if you are looking at Manchester, look at East Hartford too ;)
Thank you Allan. Since I heard not the greatest things about East Hartford, I didn't even consider it, but I guess just like the other towns, it all depends on the neighborhood.

Hey everybody, thanks for all the help. I was wondering what people think of Bloomfield and Manchester mainly for cash flow. I did check out New Britain and just like people said, you need to know the area, because some areas are obviously better than others.
I would like to get the same idea about the above two, since they both look pretty interesting. In particular, if anyone could suggest areas where they would recommend and also areas I should stay away from.
@Shahar Katz I recently joined a meetup called Real Estate Wine and Meetup Group on the meetup app. It is a new meetup, so it is fairly small but I had a great time at the first meetup I attended. It is meeting again at the end of August in Glastonbury.

I just found this thread and am also newer to real estate investing with my first two deals made this year! Glad I saw all these local REI Hartford groups as I was having a hard time finding any to attend. Looking forward to the Hartford meet up this coming Tuesday and to see some of you there.
