Hi,
I am new to posting on BP, but have been a fan for years. I am now ready to get started learning about investing in real estate, using my self directed IRA account. I already have an account through a company called Equity trust. This year a friend has told me I should go to another company, because she heard their reputation is not good. Has anyone heard about this company? should I stay with them or find another company? If yes, any recommendations? Thank you for your feedback.

Hey Hang,
We've used Equity Trust to invest in apartment buildings. They have good managers but the staff between you and the managers don't always do what they say they're going to do. I had to file complaints against some of their staff for not following through with our investors.
Equity Trust has a great online platform but I feel that COVID-19 might be impacting their performance at the moment.
Who did your friend say to use instead? I may give the other company a try for my investors in the future.
Best,
Jesse

Well, think Equity Trust is legit, but customer service may be an issue. There's another guy I used based in Portland that does SDIRAs and he'll take time to answer your questions.
Maybe you can see if they can transfer your funds to his company?
I don't know how to get you info since the forum has rules about contacts. I guess if you can friend me?
