Hello! I wanted to introduce myself to the Des Moines area crowd. My name is Chris Goehring, and I'm getting into real estate more each week. I wish I had started here with Bigger Pockets first, because it would've made the learning curve a lot smoother. I started with a JV, and would like to get into more assets with cash-flow like rentals, multi-family rentals. To go with my JV, I'm always open to working with others and getting creative to move a deal. My biggest unknown is not really knowing a lot of people who specialize in this space (i.e. attorneys, CPAs, general contractors), but asking around is how I got into my first JV.
I would love to hear how others in the area are doing, what's your outlook, and have discussions on how we can help each other. Is there a regular REIA meeting I can attend?
@Chris Goehring Welcome to BP! The next REIA is tomorrow night, Sept 20, at Ingersoll Tap in Des Moines, from 6-8 pm. It's very informal. People grab a drink and have an open discussion, just inside the front doors at the high top tables. I'll be there tomorrow night. It meets the third Thursday of every month at this location.

Good to hear some DSM area folks here. I have not been to a meetup as well, but that sounds like a good idea. Chris, what are you looking for, exactly? It's unclear to me where you're starting from - how'd your JV go? My wife and I own mostly SFH rentals around DSM with a couple in Ankeny.
The market's a lot more competitive right now so even for the value-add 'roll up your sleeves' stuff right now, there's not a ton out there at a good bargain. I just went out and looked yesterday. Admittedly, I'm not looking for Multi Family.

Michael, It's tough for me to lay out the full details of the JV, and might be better discussed at a meet up. In short, I'm a private real estate investor. I'll be looking for the next deal to invest starting over the winter, and I've learned to be flexible. Getting to know others in this space and learning how to work together is my underlying goal. I hope to meet new people, and I look forward to the meet up.
