I used to run an event called the Wealth Investment Network (WIN) that met monthly for over 4 years. Some life events took the wind out of those sails, but there is still a decent apartment networking meetup at Casa Chapala on Tuesdays for lunch when we're not having the current zombie apocalypse we have right now.
Regarding Fundrise and the other marketplaces I really still feel like there are better deals to be had from sponsors who set up their own offerings on their own site and market directly to investors. The marketplace business model is poor in general and based on everything I have seen they necessarily will do a poor job of screening sponsors given how they're set up and how their interest are aligned.
Joel Block has some very educational videos online which I think he's dubbing Profit From The Inside now or some such. I'd recommend starting there and learning how sydicators think and put deals together. It will inform you a great deal as a passive investor.
I am sure there are a lot of meetups. I know Texas has a lot of syndicators who like to teach also. There is Mark kenney and Brad sumrok. I would do your homework always.
Meetup.com has several good meetup groups in the area. Just go to their explore page and search for "multifamily" or "apartment" and several good ones will show up like Apartment Investor Mastery or Multifamily Investor Nation. I haven't been to these as I'm out of state, but I've heard good things. Good luck!
@Roni E. I've heard good things about them and follow Brad some. I would highly recommend "Jake & Gino" also.... but I'm in that program so... haha. They are based in TN but there are a lot of us students in Texas. The syndication knowledge and tools in their program are top notch!
I went to one of Brad’s weekend event and have done one of his webinars prior to the whole crisis. I spoke to them about joining and they went over both levels of becoming involved and the cost. A few days later we began the shelter in place so I’ve been sitting tight waiting for this to play out for me to resume. One thing is, I will be ready.
