Real Estate Newbie in Portage, Indiana

Pretty obvious from the title, but I’ve been diving into as much information as I can about real estate investing over the past few months and am really excited about the prospect of starting my own investing business sometime in the foreseeable future. I’m a full time manager at the steel mill in Burns Harbor and am looking to start investing on the side by flipping & selling single family homes or by becoming a landlord of single family homes around NW Indiana. The areas I am interested in include Portage, Chesterton, Michigan City, Valparaiso & Merrillville. My hope starting things out is to connect with local experts and start learning more about market conditions around NW Indiana to help me decide where I want to jump into my first deal. If anyone knows of local agents or investors who aren’t afraid to work with complete newbies in the business and probably answer a million questions about the market viabilities in the area, I would be super interested to make some connections.

Nice to meet you BiggerPockets community.
