U.S. Coronavirus deaths 348 Since Jan 1 - U.S. Flu deaths 23,000 Since Jan 1 - numbers from the CDC

Do you see the irony?

Panic, Panic, Panic. and for what? Follow the money. Who gains the most by setting the word in PANIC?

Watch the Stock Market, who is trying to crash the market so they can buy low? Who is trying to scare hoards of people who don't read the facts?

The mortality rate for the coronavirus in the US continues to fall as more and more Americans are able to be tested.

12 days ago the US coronavirus mortality rate was 4.06
Today the mortality rate is down to 1.29%!

PERSPECTIVE:
** The 1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic killed 675,000 out of US population of 103,268,000 or about — 1 in 200
** The 2020 Coronavirus has killed 218 (so far) out of a population of 333,546,000 or less than — 1 in a million

(Still, as my mother would say "wash your hands and don't pick your nose", anyway)

@Account Closed  The US response to coronavirus has been terrible.  Although this isn't going to be a walking dead scenario...you don't want the USA to become Italy.  Issue is that this is very easy to transfer and survives quite a while even in people with zero symptoms.  It puts the elderly and people with pre existing respiratory issues at great risk.  Just because the number of fatalities is less than the flu doesn't mean it doesn't need to be taken seriously.

There will always be ones to take advantage of a falling market.  That won't change.  The reason the market came down is to prevent needless infections and deaths.  Flattening the curve is a real thing believe it or not. You might be fine where you are at but places like NYC are getting hammered and hospitals are at capacity of higher. 

Panic? probably bit too far but it is probably prudent to be safe & cautious

    The flu is ‘old’ news and society is desensitized to it. But COVID-19 is a “pandemic” which has every media outlet focused on this “invisible killer.” 

    As we see, the media continues to shape our culture. This will pass, but hopefully it stays long enough to correct the real estate market.

    There were 15,000 people A DAY arriving from China into the ports of L.A, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and Vancouver and traveling all over the country since over a year ago. That's over a million people from China into the U.S. since China announced their first case of coronavirus. That has been December, January, February and now March.

    Where is the carnage? It's hysteria and sadly people are buying into it.

    By the way, the malaria drug chloroquine effectively stops coronavirus in it's tacks and supplies are being provided to hospitals for the the very few people that actually become seriously ill.

    Two thirds of the people infected are not even aware. You have been in close proximity to hundreds of people who've been infected if you live in a city or town.

    Out of all that, 348 deaths. Mostly centered in Kirkland & a couple of other places.

    The regular flu has killed 23,000 people in the same time.

    The facts are the facts.

    Still, wash your hands, and stay away from old people for a while. ;-)

    It's fine. Agree to disagree.  You can see what it has the potential to do in other countries.  Any measures to control something before it gets out of hand is best.  It might be roses and puppies where you are at but some areas are quite bad and getting worse by the day.  

    It is very true that many people probably have it and don't know it.  That's also what makes it somewhat scary.  You could be fine and visit your parents and potentially give it to them.  

    It probably isn't as bad as the media makes it out to be but it also isn't something to just brush under the rug with statistics.   

    As someone that has asthma, it is a big deal.  

    I am middle of the road.  Don't think it is time to panic but do need to take it seriously no matter what the stats are compared to flu or any other disease.

    @Account Closed  believe what you want to believe but check your data 400 deaths  as of today in US.  Where did you get 23,000 flu deaths since January?  That is the per season flu death estimate by the CDC and the season starts in the fall and ends in early spring  (about 3.5 months). so that is comparing a new disease to a season that is nearly over. Keep in mind the difference between the flu and this is Acute Respiratory distress Syndrome and respirator need. That is what is leading to projections of higher medical demand. 

    Watch NY they have 11,700 confirmed cases now. Since testing was aggressive in contacts of those infected we will get a better idea of how many really get sick. The media is a bit much but I say look at the data and listen to medically knowledgeable people. (and experts in the field not paid CBS/NBC commentators).

    Also there are no controlled clinical trials showing the malaria drug chloroquine effectively stops coronavirus in it's tracks.  Please look to what  Dr Hahn from the FDA said about that.  It is safe within a narrow dose range and it may be effective. They manufacture it in quantities to meet the need for malaria not what is happening now. so it could be the next mask shortage. 

    I agree there is alot of hype but that only proves you shouldn't go to politicians for real information. know the source.

    Journalists are in the business of SELLING NEWS.

    I have a friend that used to work higher up in a news broadcasting company and you could take a news story and be manipulated or positioned 100's of ways depending on how the network wanted to position it to be received by the public.

    China has about 1.4 BILLION plus people yet infection is only showing about 80,000 cases. WHY is that? Numbers do not add up compared to population levels and what is happening in other parts of the world. Some experts believe it is not spreading that fast it's just people already infected are taking the test and showing positive results so the overall numbers are growing but actual spread rate is slowing. Nobody knows for sure.

    My two older brothers are in China...Not in Wuhai providence though

    They are back to work 100%, school starts Monday... My one older brother even took a tour last week as he can't resist the cheap airline tickets....

    So yes, dont trust US media....Looking at what they went thru gives me confidence that we will come out of the other end soon too, provided we apply the same self discipline that they exercised....

    @Mike McKee great insights, thank you for sharing with us. I think a lot of the panic comes from the unknown, the uncertainty of how long we are supposed to be social distancing from, not knowing how long folks will be out of work for. Not having a vaccine for it also makes matters worse. Like others have mentioned, a lot of it has to do with the "newness" and the fact that we don't know what it is, unlike the flu. Stay safe and healthy.

    I know nothing about Italy but a friend has a contact they know there.

    He basically told me Italy never recovered from the Euro money problem. So their medical system has been depleted for awhile among other things.

    Some of the higher death tolls can simply be Italy does not have the resources to handle it fully so mortality rate is higher.

    So, it must really be capable of killing thousands upon thousands then, unless (per your comment) you get quality medical care.. It's also very contagious.

    You mention the other factor of why people are dying in Italy is due to their hospitals without proper resources..

    Maybe this very contagious thing that will require hospitals with good resources to survive at a high rate is something to worry about then? 

    1.4% of our entire population is still millions of people. (327 million in USA)

    How can you say this? Are you out of your mind? You cannot fake trucks taking out dead bodies to other cities because the morgue doesn’t have space.

    Northern Italy was a war zone where every room was a covid positive patient where patients were laying on the hallways, where people like you and me were gasping for air and sedated while a nurse or physician in many cases without adequate PPE were holding their hands to their deaths without family members allowed.

    Each case the same bilateral (meaning both lungs) pneumonia.

    Truly heartbreaking that we have gotten to this.

    Please have some respect for the people that died in Italy and if you don’t know what you are talking about limit yourself to talk about real estate.

    You missed the sarcasm Elisabet. The original poster is trying to make light of the coronavirus. I reply "Italy faking their deaths I guess" to highlight how serious it is with their death toll.

    I then further point how serious it is in the post directly above yours that I made.. 

    Read the discussion over again, your anger is misdirected.
