Hi, just wondering if anyone has any figures for the rate of farmland or woodlot appreciation across canada in recent years? i'm assuming with the ridiculous amount of money being printed, it will probably go up more in the next decade or so, but does anyone know about 2010-2020? numbers for quebec especially, around montreal/sherbrooke area i'm most interested in.

Great question, Russell. I've been wondering the same thing for western Canada (AB/BC/SK). In many northern parts of the prairies there is significant depopulation and aggregation of farmland into larger blocks, or leasing opportunities with larger operators looking to increase their acreage. I don't think there is much private land woodlot ownership in the prairies except by forestry companies, but I could be wrong.

I have some relatives who have done this in northern Sask, it’s not extremely common but it is possible.
For example, you can buy a quarter section for $120k that is wooded and have a logging company come and cut down the trees and pay you $80k.
Bryan is correct in that most of the forests in Sask are crown(government owned) land, but there are definitely parcels that are privately owned on the “fringe” of the forests.
