Hoarding Impacts Everyone

Yes, hoarding does impact all of us in some way. It might be your tenant, your friend, your neighbor or even your family member.

Depending on your role in that persons life, you can either help or hinder the situation.

If you are talking with someone that hoards, understand that they are likely in a) denial b) have been traumatized and c) don't actually "see" the clutter, otherwise known as "clutter blindness."

If you are talking with a family member of a person that hoards, understand that they may NOT be the best person to intervene. This is often because they may have already attempted to intervene and been pushed away by the person that hoards.

There are many layers to the issue of hoarding and it generally not resolved with a quick clean out and a few trips to the dump.

We CAN address hoarding in a direct way, but we CAN do it with compassion toward all the people involved.

Consider this: How has hoarding impacted you?  Ponder it a little longer, it is likely hoarding has impacted you and you may not even realize it.
