Got Goals? Now What?!?!

We now have our goals? What do we need to do each and every day to achieve them? What are the steps? How do I find those steps and start taking action? If you still need my goals worksheet, get it here

First you have to commit to some Self Discipline and promise to avoid procrastinating. These are so very common for all of us, but two major things that keep us for achieving our goals. Additionally, the next major step is avoiding busy tasks and focusing on Action Steps. Action Steps are items that move you that much closer to your goal.

Now…..You’ve committed to some disciple and to do what you said you’d do. Don’t let yourself down by getting distracted.

Okay, I’ve committed….now what?

1. List all the activities that need to be accomplished to make that goal happen

2. Brainstorm – all and any other ideas that may help you accomplish your goal and move your business forward.

3. Criticize your list – I know this sounds weird, but you need to evaluate what is truly going to get you results and what is just going to be busy work

4. Prioritize….put first things first. What is has to be done first. I like the Franklyn Covey Method for this rank things A (Urgent, must happen today), B (Important, should happen soon), C (Nice To’s, you’ll get to it when you truly have time)

5. Schedule – once you’ve prioritized now you rank the A’s 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 then the B’s 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 then the C’s 1, 2, 3, 4,5

6. Now Follow your Plan….Start with A1 and build from there.

7. Reevaluate what’s not getting done? Why? Think long and hard about what is going on with you and what is holding you back. Is it you don’t feel you have enough information? Is it your fear of the unknown result?

What I do is sit down every Sunday night (pick what night works for you) and I outline my week. What do I have to do every day? What do I want to accomplish? Then assign that task to each day. Now, you’ll have to schedule around other requirements like picking your kid up from school (many of you have jobs) so you have to schedule it in….how do you schedule it in? Start with A1 in your first available spot, then A2 and so on.

Now what happens when a day flies by and you didn’t do what you said because something came up….News Flash: Something always will come up. You know the saying Life gets in the way….well your business now needs to become a major player your life. Maybe this is what needs to be getting in the way.

So you missed a day, now what. Normal reaction is to start again next week and I’ll be better. How many of you have gone to the gym Monday and then missed Tuesday (I’m going to go again on Wed), miss Wednesday and just decide to start fresh on Monday – more than I’m sure you’re willing to admit

If you miss a day, work harder the next to catch up on your A’s. Don’t tear yourself down as that (feeling bad) won’t help you tomorrow when you try to start again. Just realize you’re human and start again.

What happens when you consciously say “I don’t feel like doing anything today, so I’m taking the day off.” You just moved the date of your goal back. You have to realize you are consciously making a decision to postpone your success. If your why is strong enough that should keep you from giving up.

In addition to delaying your success, when you choose to take a day off (not saying you cannot schedule days off from your business), but choose to not “do what you said you’d do” it won’t be one day off. Chances are you’ll wake up a week or a month later and realize time just flew by and it will be like starting all over again. Getting back on the horse. And if that happens, GET BACK ON THE HORSE!

The keys to planning success are: Brainstorm, Evaluate, Prioritize, Schedule & Follow Through!

Best of Success! ~Andrea
