Life can be hard, but keep moving forward

This past week has been full of deadlines. Some of them are exciting, some of them are just a pain, but accomplishing the task always lead to relief.

I think that's kind of how life and business alike go. Somethings you work your butt off to achieve and it's bumpy the whole way. Somethings are not too bad and yet feel just as good when you've accomplished the task. Point A to Point B is not always a straight line. Somethings are more important to you personally, and that naturally drives you forward. Other things are necessary, but do not inspire you so you have to find that extra drive to get to the finish line.

This week our son Caleb had college applications due. Yes, we could have postponed, but if you apply today you can apply for free. First, free is fabulous so why wouldn't you. Second, sometimes you just really need that hard deadline to get the job done. Most of us need that urgency of a deadline looming to motivate ourselves to take action.

The application process wasn't that hard, but it did require sitting down and focusing for a few hours. As a 17 year old that sounds miserable. It's his fall break...he wants to be hanging out with his friends. Why do I have to spend time working on something that I may or may not do in 10 months. I get it! Without the instant gratification of starting college tomorrow, what's the hurry.

However, after lots of pushing and bribing, we got the job done. Six college applications have been submitted. That big task is off his plate and then he can make the decisions on where and if to go in the future. The best part is the work applying is behind him now and he can get back to important things - his friends.

Most heavy tasks in our business go the same way. We make our list of things to do. We focus on the things we enjoy or that aren't uncomfortable. We push off the big and painful jobs for later. Hopefully, we eventually have a deadline to create the urgency to eventually get them done. Getting those items accomplished often pushes us that much closer to our finish line.

If you are always ignoring certain parts of your business, you're probably not where you want to be in your business. If you're not reaching your goals, take a minute to evaluate if you're daily activities and tasks are inline with your goals. If they are not, find a way to motivate or bribe yourself to get those done. Or find a partner or even virtual assistant that can do the jobs you don't want to do.

Once you've accomplished your goals and reached your deadlines with success, you'll feel the relief, accomplishment and satisfaction. You're in charge of your own success. Go out there and get it done!

Best of Success, Andrea
