Set Goals for Success

As we round out the year, focusing on our goals is very important. Ending this year strong and starting next year with a bang!

I like to break down goals into a couple categories (long term, short term, and specific tasks to achieve the goals)

Long term goals can be anywhere from 1 year to 10 years, but usually 5+ years....How you see your future and why is it you'd like to be successful in real estate?

Now short term goals are usually the drivers to your day to day success. These are often a month or two up to a year or two.

These are what should push you to get going in REI or any other activity. Knowing specifically what your short term goal is will help you achieve your goals by breaking your days down into tasks

Tasks are what take you from doing (being busy) to accomplishing - doing deals!

Okay, so what makes a goal a good goal?

1. It has to be important to you. If it isn't important to you why would you work for it? Or what is going to motivate you to do those tasks? Often people think - "I guess my goal should be...." that's crazy. Make your goals have value

2. You need to define you goals - specifics: make sure they are tangible and to an extent achievable.... Tangible - I mean in it is measurable and you know you hit that point when you get there Achievable - the goal needs to be something you can get to...not that we cannot get to $1million in the first year, but our life circumstances may not be the same. So make sure your goals drive/push you, but don't set yourself up for failure

3. Your goals need to be written down and with you at all times. I don't care if it is a piece of paper you carry in your wallet and icon on your phone, but it is with you at all times so you can see what you’re fighting for even when it feels really hard and difficult.

4. Tell Someone - this is the most powerful tool I've found to make me successful. If I tell someone what I'm working for, I'm that much more driven to make it happen. It is easy to let yourself down, but it is much harder to let someone else down. I love the example of a workout or diet buddy. You usually will make it to the gym at 6am if you're meeting someone there, if you are not then the snooze button is easy to hit

5. Give yourself some visual aids. The more you have reminders of your goals and what you can accomplish the more you're motivated to make it happen. For visual aids we love writing on the mirrors in our bathroom so when we are brushing our teeth twice a day we are reminded of what we're working toward. We use the dry erase markers.

Get your goals on paper and get to work!

Best of Success, Andrea
