South Florida Is A Hotbed For Medical Technology Innovation

It is no secret that South Florida is a hub for medical technology innovation, with major players like Miami-Dade County and the City of Palm Beach leading the charge. But what may come as a surprise to some is just how expansive this industry has become in recent years – and its potential for continued growth. With advances in medical technology comes great opportunity for businesses, investors, and patients alike – making South Florida one of the most desirable places to be in the healthcare sector. In this post, we will explore some of the key reasons why South Florida is such a hotbed for medical technology innovation. Read on to learn more!

I have long been fascinated by how robots can enhance our lives.

So, it was great to learn that South Florida is gaining ground as a region where surgical robotics companies are touted for their cutting-edge technology.

Our cover story, by senior reporter Ashley Portero, highlights how the sector – expected to reach $22 billion in value by 2027 – is ripe with investment opportunities.

It’s easy to understand why, as experts say surgical tech could result in savings for health care groups and patients alike. Much of that is due to the enhanced precision of the devices, which results in less invasive surgeries, reduced complications and shorter hospital stays.

The story illustrates how the area’s recent medical robot boom is tied to Mako Surgical, a Davie company bought in 2013 for $1.65 billion. Mako leaders later launched other local medical device ventures, helping to fuel the innovative sector’s growth.

Several of the ventures’ founders shared what prompted their concepts and how their technology enhances the way health professionals conduct their surgeries.

It’s a prime example of how our tech scene has gained considerable steam, resulting in national media attention for its growth, innovation, tech visionaries and ability to draw noteworthy tech companies to South Florida.

Miami and South Florida are great places to live for a variety of reasons. Our region’s burgeoning tech scene is just one more example of why this area is attracting attention from all over the country. If you’re looking for a place that’s constantly innovating, has beautiful weather and plenty to do, then Miami or South Florida should be at the top of your list.
