The San Diego Convention Center

The San Diego Convention Center is located in Downtown San Diego right across the street from Petco Park (Home of the San Diego Padres).  This Center is the premier meeting and conference facility for the region.

San Diego is not only a great location, it's also one of the nation's most vibrant cities, and the Convention Center is at the heart of all the action.  This beautiful bayside building is just a short stroll away from an array of sidewalk cafes, specialty shops, night clubs in the historic Gaslamp Quarter, thousands of hotel rooms, gorgeous waterfront parks, some of the finest restaurants, the USS Midway and PETCO Park, home to the the San Diego Padres.

In the next 18 months, there are more than 100 events scheduled at this great facility.  Some of the more popular events are...

   1. San Diego Comic Con 2011 7/21/11 - 7/24/11 126,000 attendees
   2. American College of Physicians 4/7/11 - 4/9/11  11,000 attendees
   3. National University 2011 Commencement Ceremony 5/26/11 - 5/26/11 15,000   attendees
   4. Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Health & Fitness Expo 6/3/11 - 6/4/11 40,000 attendees
   5. American Diabetes Association 6/25/11 - 6/27/11  20,000 attendees

In fact, our convention center is so popular, the city is attempting expansion - The proposed expansion of the San Diego Convention Center would be designed and built to meet LEED Certification standards.  For more than 20 years, the Convention Center has been an industry and community leader in environmentally-friendly practices.

Personally, I'm all for the expansion of the convention center and for that matter the building of the new Chargers Football Stadium.  These kinds of venues provide great revenue and jobs for the city. The Convention Center reduces burden on local taxpayers.

Out-of-town convention delegates fuel tax revenues that this past fiscal year totaled $20.2 million.  Those revenues are used by the City of San Diego to pay for basic city services including police protection, street, park and beach maintenance, as well as libraries and museums - thus reducing the tax burden on local tax payers. The Convention Center creates region-wide jobs and economic benefits.

Convention Center events are responsible for supporting 12,500 jobs county-wide.  Spending associated with Convention Center events interacts with all sectors of the local economy.

The mission of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation is to generate significant economic benefits for the greater San Diego region by hosting international and national conventions and trade shows in our world-class facility.

The Convention Center is more than just a venue for national conventions and trade shows, it is a magnet for the local community.  As the city's premier gathering place, it is where local meetings, banquets, educational, cultural, religious and social functions are held on behalf of all members of the community.

Whenever I'm showing Downtown San Diego Condo's I always bring them by the Convention Center!
