El Cabure Won the 2014 Ylvisaker Cup Wellington Polo by Default

The El Cabure team composed of Scott Wood, Sugar Erskine, Agustin Merlos and Carlucho Arellano brought home the trophy during the 2014 Ylvisaker Cup last Sunday after their rival team, Valiente (Robert Jornayvaz, Santi Torres, Sapo Caset and Adolfo Cambiaso), was forced to forfeit the game

An hour before the final would start, Valiente was informed that they couldn't play with a 21-goal lineup, with Robert Jornayvaz replacing his injured father Bob. So the USPA and representatives of the club asked them to change another player or replace Bob by a 0-goal player to return to the original 20-goal lineup.

On behalf of Valiente, Sapo Caset said that three days before the championship, they informed the club and the USPA that Robert was playing which was no problem for the management.

He also added that they were asked to change the team but Bob didn't want to because they were told that they could play with a 21-goal lineup. Bob said that if El Cabure's patron, Scott Wood, accepted this, they would play. But Wood said no and so they withdrew from the cup.

Wood was named MVP and Merlos' Vagabunda took BPP honors.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Audi (Grant Ganzi, Lucas Lalor, Nic Roldan and Freddie Mannix) scored an 11-9 win over Faraway (Santiago Chavanne, Martin Pepa, Mariano Gonzalez and Hutton Goodman) in the Ylvisaker Cup subsidiary tournament, the George Haas subsidiary final.

Roldan led all scoring with eight goals, Mannix adding two and one goal by handicap for a total of 11 goals for Audi. While Gonzales scored four goals, Chavanne thrice, and a goal each from Pepa and Goodman added to the loss of Farway.

Roldan was named MVP while Gonzalez's Meghan as the BPP honors.

This was another milestone in the field of Wellington polo this year.
