Electrical Panels going in, and cabinet design

5 July

Talked with Jeff from T&V Electric.  We had a verbal conversation previously, and now he wants to ensure that what he is planning on doing with the electrical system is also what we want him to do. We agreed that we need to make the house safe. Right now, there are loose wires, uncapped wires, and twisted aluminum, in addition to outdated and unsafe panels.  He looked around and sees what he calls the Obvious stuff. I asked him to get it up to code. Later in the day I confirmed that he got the second panel replaced. He has a few more clients to handle and will come back in the near future to drop lines for the outlets and for the ceiling lights.  Two new panels are $4000.

We have been adding new and modern A/C units, which have more pull than older models.  Additionally, the stove configuration wasn't powerful enough.  Lastly, the panels were of a variety where thrusting action to make the connection with the fuse (if I understand the electrician correctly) could possibly cause sparking.  So it was in our best interest to replace this panel, and another one in a different part of the house.  Expensive project, but it will bring the house up to code.

We went in to Cabinet Designs of Central Florida and chose a cherry wood with reddish finish, which will match the cherry wainscoting in the entry hall. We are going with a two-tone kitchen, largely because the outside light is rather dim, and we want light to bounce around inside the kitchen and lighten it up. This is an expensive house with a Key West casual personality, so the two tone will look mix-and-match-y.  So we will have natural cherry wood on the lower cabinets, and we chose a white with the slightest red tinge for the uppers. We will have glass panels in the two upper doors next to the sink. The uppers are not quite as high as those in our Eagle property, so I won't be able to have the small glass fronted uppers that are in our plan.  New kitchen cabinets are quoted at $27000, without appliances or counter top.
