Expanding the Orlando Airport
Readers in Miami and elsewhere are likely aware that occasionally population growth in an area may necessitate new residential and commercial construction in order to accommodate. In some situations, it may make more sense to expand an existing property or structure rather than to build a new one.
That is the case with a newly approved project in Orlando. According to reports, a plan was recently approved by the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority to expand the Orlando International Airport. Construction on the $1.1 billion project will reportedly begin in 2014 and is expected to take approximately three years to complete. Expanding the Orlando airport is aimed at increasing the number of passengers that the airport can accommodate each year. It will reportedly grow the passenger capacity form 25 million travelers to 45 million passengers annually, but the exact amount of space that will be added was not released.
The Orlando airport expansion plan reportedly includes improvements to the airport’s existing baggage facilities, as well as the check-in and waiting areas within the terminals. It was not indicated whether or not the plan would require the purchase of any additional real estate. It remains unknown to the public at this time who the developer for the project is or who will be awarded the construction contract. Often times, with projects such as this, a number of developers and builders will submit bids for the contract and then a selection is made based on costs, qualifications and other factors.
Even with the smallest expansion projects, there are often a number of legalities involved. This is where an attorney may be of assistance. A lawyer can help to ensure that everything in the construction plan is up to code and that all other legal requirements for building are met.
