6 Reasons For An E-2 Visa Investment

6 Reasons For An E 2 Visa Investment

There are multiple visa categories for people who want to stay in the United States. One of such categories for investors is the E-2 visa. This visa category is for people who are citizens of countries with a treaty of commerce and trade with the United States.

If you are a foreigner who wants to invest in the United States, you should consider an E-2 visa. Here are six reasons to help you make up your mind.

An E-2 Visa Investment Lets You Work For Your Company In The US

An E-2 visa investment lets you operate your business in the United States legally. To qualify for an E-2 visa, you need to prove that you play a vital role in the management of your business.

You can prove this by showing that you have more than a 50% stake in the company or that you are in a managerial position. You can also get approved if you are a highly skilled worker and your skill is essential to the running of the business.

To prove that you have more than a 50% stake in the company, you can provide a signed list of the owners. The percentage stake of each owner should also be written on the list, preferable opposite each owner’s name.

No Minimum Amount For An E-2 Visa Investment

There is no specific minimum amount to invest in an E-2 visa. However, the investment has to be substantial. The government determines that an investment is substantial after it compares the amount you want to invest with the amount needed for the type of business you want to establish. If it is a capital intensive business, then you should have more investment capital.

Your Spouse Can Work Under An E-2 Dependent Visa

If you get an E-2 visa, your spouse also gets one. With the E-2 dependent visa, your spouse can work anywhere in the United States.

Another option is for your spouse to apply for an employment authorization document (EAD). Your spouse can get this by filling a form I-765. You should note that your spouse’ E-2 dependent visa will expire along with yours.

Your Children Under 21 Can Go To School In The US With An E-2 Dependent Visa

While your children can’t work with an E-2 visa, they can go to school anywhere in the United States. After completing his/her education, your child can apply for another non-immigrant visa to work in the US.

You should note that an E-2 visa won’t cover your child after the age of 21. Regardless, your child can apply for another visa to continue staying in the United States.

You Can Travel Freely In And Out Of The US

If you have an E-2 visa, you can travel freely in and out of the United States without risking your visa getting withdrawn.

You Can Stay Indefinitely

An E-2 visa lasts for two to five years. However, you can renew it indefinitely. Your spouse and children will also need to apply for an extension if their visa expires. For your child, he/she can apply for another visa after the age of 21.
