A Well Loved Lake Havasu City

Ernst Prohaska is a prime example of just how much community members love Lake Havau City.  When weather and other forces of nature threaten the Veterans Memorial in Wheeler Park, Mr. Prohaska decided to take on the duty of repair himself.

Even though Mr. Prohaska is now 82, he still feels it is his personal responsibility to oversee the Veterans Memorial.  He actually built the memorial by hand in 1983 to stand proud to represent American military veterans.

Although Mr. Prohaska is an Austrian immigrant, once he moved to Lake Havasu City in 1979, he fell in love with the city and has been here since.  Mr. Prohaska is a stonemason and craftsman and was the second president of the Home Builders Association in 1983, which was also the same year he completed the memorial.

The Veterans Memorial took Mr. Prohaska two years to complete by hand using leftover granite from the London Bridge that was donated by Syl Cohan.  And recently, the memorial was damaged.  So when Mr. Prohaska first noticed, he went right to work.  He has dedicated the last two months of his time with repairs.

It seems to be his love for Lake Havasu City and what the memorial represents that drives his dedication.  The memorial is such an important piece of the city for community members and veterans alike.  It's great that Mr. Prohaska is so dedicated and able to repair the memorial when needed.

So, the next time you're in Wheeler Park, be sure to take a moment to admire Mr. Prohaska's craftsmanship.
