Volunteers Needed for Rink on the River in Reno

It's that time of year again, everyone!  Volunteers are needed for Rink on the River in Reno.  This is the ice skating rink that the Reno Parks and Recreation sets up in downtown Reno every year.  There are a variety of tasks that volunteers can help with, including putting up the rink's walls, setting up the racks for rental skates, cleaning and setting rubber safety mats, unloading and cleaning the ice blankets, setting up the barricade fence, unloading the equipment trailers, hanging lights and other miscellaneous cleaning.

Volunteers will be needed on November 10th, 12th, 15th and 19th from 8am to 3pm.  The Reno Parks and Recreation Department staff are coordinating the volunteer schedules.  If you wish to volunteer yourself or have a group that is willing to help out, please call 333-7741 to find out what the availability is.  You may not be able to help by just showing up if there aren't any equipment or tasks set for extra people.  So, make sure to call so you can be scheduled in. Volunteers must also:

  • sign a liability waiver
  • wear appropriate clothing for the weather and tasks at hand
  • bring work gloves

If you are unable to physically help, monetary donations can be made to help pay for the costs of operating the public rink.  Remember, it's tax-deductible.

For those people interested in working at the rink this season, visit the City of Reno's website to download the temporary employment application.  Positions available include:

  • Cashier - $8.25 to $9.25/hour
  • Skateguard - $8.25 to $9.25/hour
  • Skating Instructor - $9.25 to $10.75/hour
  • Facility Attendant - $9.25 to $10.75/hour
  • Ice Rink Specialist - $11.25 to $12.75/hour

Anyone wishing to work at the Rink on the River in Reno must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.  For more info, please call Noah at 775-334-2262.

Volunteers are needed for the Rink on the River in Reno.  Please consider helping if you are able.  What a great beginning to the holiday season!
