National Championship Air Races in Reno
The World's fastest motor sport, the National Championship Air Races in Reno, take place this Wednesday through Sunday, September 15-19, 2010. That means you get five whole days of air racing from:
- Biplanes - Small, acrobatic aircraft like the Mong and the Pitts Special flying in excess of 200 mph.
- Formula Ones - Powered by a Continental O-200 engine and fly at almost 250 mph.
- Sport class - Race-driven engine and airframe technology fly at almost 350 mph.
- Super Sport class - Even higher speeds than the "Sport class".
- T-6 class - Includes aircraft like the US Navy "SNJ" and the T-6 "Texan" race between 220-230 mph.
- Jet class - Non-after burning aircraft only that fly over 400 mph.
- Unlimited class - Piston-driven aircraft, typically stock or modified World War II fighters, such as the P-51 Mustang, Hawker Sea Fury and F-8F Bearcat. These aircraft can reach speeds of 500 mph.

Shuttle services to the Reno Stead Field are available from the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, the Eldorado Hotel & Casino, Harrah's Hotel & Casino, John Ascuaga's Nugget, the Grand Sierra Resort (formerly Reno Hilton), the Peppermill Hotel Casino and the Sands Regency Casino Hotel from 7am to 1pm. Return service is available from 2pm until an hour after the last race of the day on Thursday through Sunday only (not available Wednesday). Amador Stage Lines also offers shuttle service from major downtown Reno locations to the air field and back Thursday through Sunday as well. Tickets can be purchased at the casino/hotels involved and the Stead Field shuttle site for:
- Adults - $11 one way, $19 round trip, $51 for a Weekend Pass (Thursday through Saturday or Friday through Sunday) or $68 for a Season Pass (Thursday through Sunday)
- Children under 12 - $5 one way, $10 round trip, $19 for a Weekend Pass or $68 for a Season Pass.
- Children under 5 - Ride for free
Tickets can only be ordered at Stead Field as of today, September 13th. Ticket prices are as follows:
- Wednesday- Adults 16-54 $10, Seniors (55+) and military personnel $5, Kids 8-15 no ticket needed.
- Thursday - Adults $13, Seniors/Military $7, Kids no ticket needed.
- Friday - Adults $19, Seniors/Military $14, Kids no ticket needed.
- Saturday - Adults $24, Seniors/Military $22, Kids $12, under 8 free.
- Sunday - Adults $27, Seniors/Military $25, Kids $17, under 8 free.
- Entire Event - Adults $75, Seniors/Military $60, not available for kits under 16.
