How to Beat Frustration with Determination

The Problem

It is now day 27 of my investing journey and I’ve run into a problem:

I’m frustrated.

What do I have to be frustrated about? Not a lot really, I have awesome support from everyone I talk to, including members on BiggerPockets.

What does frustrate me though is that I have this long path ahead of me and when I look out on the horizon I see all of the investors that have taken their first steps on this path long before me. I can see all of these investors thanks to all of the help I’ve received from this site, which is both a blessing and a curse.

So here I am, contemplating which step to take next and it seems like the world is already passing me by. I guess it doesn’t help that I’m absolutely terrified to pull the trigger because once I do, I’m stuck on this path and the way I see it, there are only three ways off of it.

1.I succeed and continue on down it

2.I fail miserably and keep pushing forward to option 1 or

    3.I quit

What I’m afraid of is option #2. I’ve never failed at anything; I never fail because I don’t try at anything so I just sit around in limbo and exist.

The Solution

That’s enough about my situation, if you ever come to a place that I’m in then I urge you to try this:

Just push through it.

I was in the Marine Corps for eight years and one of the many things that I learned was no matter how difficult things get or how frustrated you get with something that the only way through it is to keep on going (or start in my case). If you stop doing what you doing, then you’re going to be a target, you’re the weak deer that gets picked off by the wolves.

There are so many hurdles to get over in real estate investing; some are easy to leap for some people, but feel like a 15 foot tall brick wall to others. Something seemingly meaningless to one person could stop another person in their tracks. It’s those difficult ones, the 15 foot walls, that you have to learn how to get over. Almost always there’s someone to help you pull yourself over it though.

Pushing through the hard times with persistence and determination is going to be the only thing that brings you to the other side of those obstacles and further down the road. Keep pushing, you’ll get there.

  1. Great article. Enjoyed reading. It is persistence and determination that kept me in real estate for this long. There were times i felt like quiting and cried alot dealing with bad tenants, so many bootcamps and cources, and all my offers weren't being accepted. Also, dealing with unmotivated sellers, but after the pain comes the success. Pain and failures are what molds people. I aways read about the failures of people who failed and succeded like thomas edison and abraham lincoln, and many more.
