AI and Your Data: A Conversation Every Industry Is Having Right Now
You've probably noticed how every app, every login screen, every software update lately seems to make you think some version of the same question: what exactly is AI allowed to see, and who decided that? Even the AI tools built right into your browser are wrestling with it, tools like Claude's Chrome extension now ask you, site by site, before they can see or act on a page.
That's the version working the way it's supposed to. Real estate just got a reminder of what happens when it doesn't. A recent industry report on MLS systems found that AI tools riding along inside an agent's browser can quietly pull listing data during a normal, logged-in session, no separate approval, no heads-up, nobody keeping track. Eep!
That's really the bigger story here. AI is getting woven into daily tools faster than most industries are writing the rules for it. And real estate isn't unique in facing that gap, it's just one more place it's showing up.
We don't have a stake in how MLSs choose to solve it. But we think the underlying question of who gets access to what, and whether anyone's actually keeping track, is a good one for every corner of this industry to keep asking - lending included.
