Weaponized Gift Giving + What to Do With Unwanted Gifts

Hi Friend!

Tonight, we’re going to talk about weaponized gift giving and we’ll start by answering this question that came in:

Hey JJ. I’m in my 50s from Pittsburgh,

My sister consistently gives me gifts she knows I don’t like, won’t use, or physically can’t use — including high-end spa products that contain ingredients I’m allergic to.

If I don’t put on a big show of gratitude, she immediately frames it as me being unloving or unappreciative. When I push back and say that’s not true, the conversation flips into guilt, emotional pressure, and an expectation that I owe her something expensive in return.

At this point, it doesn’t feel like generosity — it feels like control. I’m not interested in playing along anymore, but I also don’t want this to turn into a full-blown family blowup.

How do I shut this down clearly and calmly without being painted as the problem?”

Let's talk about what’s actually happening here

So this is known as manipulative giving or weaponized giving. Tonight I'll give you a few other examples, and give you some tried and true strategies to stop this manipulation in it's tracks

Let's walk in abundance,

JJ
