I am a licensed real estate agent that is not practicing due to not paying the start up fees. I am also with Kiavi as a independent Mortgage broker. Any tips on how i can get started as a referral agent is welcomed and as a for mortgage broker. I do not have a car but i am working on that. Feel free to add me on Linked In

Hello Chidubem,
I believe you will need to renew your license in order to collect any referral fees. If you're going to focus on being a referral agent, you'll need to build and regularly follow up with your database. This way, people think of you when they think of real estate.
If you'll be working as a mortgage broker, I'd imagine your time will be best spent creating and nurturing realtor relationships - you can do this via networking events, social media, calling lists based on who is active in your local market, and you can even find realtor contacts here on BP.

  I appreciate the feedback. I renewed my license back in May so that’s good. Right now I’m looking for part time work maybe 28-32 hours a week. My other free time will be spent building the business.

Chidubem, you're already in a good position having both the real estate license and mortgage experience. I'd definitely focus on building relationships with investors, agents and other professionals before worrying too much about having everything perfect.
I'm on the lending side as well and always open to connecting with other brokers in the space. Just sent you a connection request.

@Chidubem Ezimorah, I’m in Maryland too, and one thing I’ve seen work really well is focusing less on asking for referrals and more on becoming someone people remember when a real estate question comes up.
When I’ve built referral relationships, the strongest ones usually started with simply being helpful, staying in touch, and learning what the other person actually needs. Since you have both the real estate and mortgage background, I would also keep those two roles very clear and make sure you understand how your brokerage and mortgage company want referrals handled. I’d be glad to stay connected. I always enjoy meeting other real estate professionals in Maryland who are building their network from the ground up.
