Urgent! Help Us Oppose PRO Before Tuesday's Vote

Mayor Johnson's Protecting Renters Ordinance (PRO) and the Fair and Accountable Illinois Rental Ordinance (FAIR) have both cleared committee and last week, members of the City Council moved to extend the vote on each ordinance to the next City Council meeting, on Tuesday morning, September 29.

In other words, on Tuesday the City Council will conduct a final vote.

Aldermen are hearing from both sides between now and Tuesday, and calls from their own constituents and from those of us who own properties in their wards carry the most weight.

For those of you who previously took action, know that your voice mattered.

Now we urge you to call your alderperson's office again — and send an email.

Pressure from calls like yours pushed the Mayor to scale the ordinance back by dropping Just Cause and relocation fees. (We estimate that a phone call has five times the impact as an email.)

PRO and FAIR are both headed to the full City Council for a final vote on Tuesday morning and its too close to call, and the consequences and impact on our ability to own and manage buildings substantial.

PRO still adds fees, fines, and a new City bureaucracy — making it harder for Chicago landlords like us to provide housing to residents.

We need several actions from you before Tuesday.
