You could pay it off and have for example 300k dead equity which is devaluing each year with inflation and becoming worth less and less OR you can take that 300k and even with paying a 4% home loan can get 20% elsewhere.

One problem with Houston is the relative ease with which a new developer can throw up new houses, thereby devaluing (actually more holding steady) the existing inventory.Two of the reasons we sold our Houston stock was we were getting older and had much less interest in doing work and the fact that we didn't want to stay in Houston long term.I keep watching some neighborhoods where we used to own, and still have friends.

In multiple economic fronts, using dollar devaluation to make export cheaper and to cut borrowing rates, extended arm through globalization, no longer works for the USA to gain both earned and unearned income or at least have little or no effects to gain what used to be always working.
