BiggerPockets Planned Upgrade - Saturday, January 9, 2010

Hey Everyone -
As we announced yesterday, BiggerPockets has been feeling the weight of our popularity and loyal members. Things have slowed down here over the past few months since our last server upgrade.

The time has come once again to upgrade our equipment!

As such, on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 3am EST (12am PST), we will be taking BiggerPockets offline for a short while to make this upgrade. We anticipate the downtime to be only a few hours.

This is a MAJOR upgrade to our servers, and you should see a vast increase in the speed of the site once complete.

That said, changes like these are not inexpensive, so as I did yesterday, I ask all members and users alike, to consider making a donation to BiggerPockets. If that is not possible, visiting our sponsors or upgrading to PRO are other great ways to help.

Update: Please know that if you have trouble accessing the site over the next two days until our upgrade, give it a minute or two and try again. We're closely monitoring things and will do our best to ensure that any overloads are quickly squashed so you can access the site.

Again, our apologies. Bear with us and you'll have a lighter, more agile BP to spend your time on very soon!

Hey Everyone . . .
Boy was that a long night. Several of us here at BiggerPockets, didn't go to sleep last night, and were up until 7am this morning upgrading the site!

Please just thank Edd and Steve for all their great work, as we're now in some pretty fantastic equipment (we were before, but this was a dramatic addition of new machinery). We know of a few little bugs that resulted from the switch, but there is a chance that there may be others. Please voice any bugs that you think may have arisen in the past 24 hours here in this thread.

Otherwise, we're hoping that by the end of this weekend, we've nailed them all.

Also, I'm sure you can tell that the site is significantly faster . . . and it is only going to get better as we tweak things over the upcoming days/week to best fit us.

So . . . it was a SUCCESS! Thanks for all the patience for anyone trying to access the site in the middle of the night last night.

Awesome difference in speed. I need to get a helmet, scarf and goggles! There is one downside - there's no longer time to take a coffee break while waiting for a Forum page to load.

I'll post some charts later or tomorrow, but it looks like average load times are 1/4 to 1/5 of what they were prior to the move.

That is something to cheer about!

It is phenomenally better. I think with this, a lot of double postings are going to disappear as well. Excellent work Josh.

And yes, folks you really need to donate/buy pro accounts here. The bigger this grows, the more people you get to network with. I've yet to see any REIA that hosts this large a number of this variety of people.
