It’s Time to Wake up Earlier!

We’ve all heard it before, the early bird gets the worm, right? I wouldn’t say that I’ve always been an early riser if anything I’m a night owl. With the career that I have and the goals that I have for myself I have made it a point to wake up early and make the day mine from start to finish. This a model I have followed after I joined the Marine Corps in 2012. I won’t say that I haven’t fallen off before because I definitely have more than a few times. There are people that keep me accountable and that’s why I jump back on it.

My wake up time ranges from 4-6a.m. and it’s terrible but I love what it does for me more than anything else. I do my best to get up early on the weekends and get some personal things done, weekly goals, personal goals and most likely some reading. This time is extremely important to me because I’m alone, I finally get some ME time. I get into a get it done kind of mood, this is usually because I am NOT a morning person. I wake up groggy and pissed off, but I redirect that to something productive and constructive. So have faith, you can still wake up early without being a morning person, it might just be that much more important for you, and you get it out of your way and out of your system. I get to collect myself and get into the right mindset, this lets me get a jump on people who are just waking up. Workout – done. Daily/Weekly goals – done. I get that out of the way to make room for something that needs to get done. I make time to talk to an old friend, to connect with new people on social media and come up with new content. There more than likely is some science behind it but man, I just feel better.

It gives me a sense of accountability, if I can wake up earlier than anyone else, I can do things before anyone else and if I make mistakes, I get it fixed before anyone else. I noticed that my mannerisms throughout the day are more positive and outgoing and reflect my accountability, as a realtor this is a must every day. Mindset is important with any activity, it’s the way you approach things and process actions in your head. I’ve tried to cram things into my day, waking up just early enough to take a shower and go to work and organize my meetings for later in the day, ending up at the gym at 8 p.m. feeling drained from the day. That got old quick. Waking up earlier naturally made me more productive. I have a need to be productive because I have big goals. I want to be successful in real estate and make people happy through that process, ultimately I want to create jobs and keep business growing. I can’t do that waking up at noon when the day is almost done.

I follow many motivators and entrepreneurs such as Grant Cardone and Patrick Bet-David and I hear one consistency, the value of time. I believe that some of that value lies in time with yourself, for yourself. Getting that time to myself in the morning allows me to put myself first in a way and the rest of the day is dedicated to making things happen for other people.

  1. If you take control of your life you can work on your terms and do just fine. I am a night person. Always have been. I think more clearly and am more creative late at night. When people see my response to their e-mails at 4 am it means I have had a long night not an early morning. My partners know this and know that if they call early they are likely to get my voicemail...or they can send their proposals by e-mail and I will respond promptly when I can focus my full attention on them. We all have the power to work the way that is best for us if we figure out what that is and are not afraid to move forward.

  2. Good post! I agree with you, if you have (big) goals you must be wake up early to achieve them.

  3. Setting your goal is the first step. Waking up early doesn't get easier but let your passion/obsession as my man Grant Cardone says wake you up and drive you to be better. You got this take control of your life it's what you make of it. If I can ever help in any way please let me know.

  4. Nice post, keep them coming. If you like to follow motivated people and you don't know who Gary Vaynerchuk is you should probably check hime out.
