Fire and Sprinkler Water Damage
My building in NYC recently experienced a minor fire that seems to have started from an AC installed by a tenant. Thankfully, everyone is safe, and the sprinkler system appears to have put out the fire before FDNY arrived.
When I got to the property, there was a lot of water from the sprinklers. The water traveled from the upper floor down to the basement. From what I can see, most of the damage appears to be to the floors and ceilings.
This is my first time dealing with something like this. For contractors who have worked on fire or sprinkler water damage, what should I be looking out for? What is the proper process for drying, removing damaged materials, and making repairs?
I’ve already filed an insurance claim and would appreciate any advice from those who have dealt with similar situations.
