Hey Michael! I'm an agent in the Syracuse area, and frequently work with both in area and out of area investors, so I a familiar with the nuances associated with each. Syracuse as a whole is a great place to start your portfolio in NY. Relatively low prices, fairly stable rent across the city, and rapid appreciation, much above the national average. There was also groundbreaking for the Micron fab plants in Clay today, about 20 minutes north of the city which is expected to bring a large influx of people over the next 10-15 years as construction happens. Both SFH and MFH are common with plenty of opportunities in each, and cash flow is the name of the game in the city. Working with first-time investors is one of my favorite niches, as I also am actively searching for my first property so I understand all that goes into it!
