Hi everyone. I'm William Laurent, and I'm a brand new Real Estate Investor. Which states or also cities do you recommend me for start with this business? Many people said that you should start where you live, but the fact is that I think if I'm going to do this seriously, I will do whatever it take to get the deals, and that include move to where the opportunities are. Because I'm new in this business I spent a lot of time reading and searching information on internet and books, honestly at this point I feel stuck it with too much information, and while I more search more find, and At the end I don't know where to start. I just know that I need ACTION, and I want it now. I live in Miami, but honestly I feel like here is not a good zone for start (maybe I'm wrong ) but there is a a lot of people and gurus here trying to do the same thing everywhere. Also I have too much time in Miami, and I would like to move to a new place and get new energies, and nothing better that take the opportunity focusing in my new business of Real Estate Investment. I was thinking in another state or cities like, New York, New Jersey, North or South Caroline, California. Any professional suggestion I will really appreciate it. Thanks so much, and I wish all of you a lot of success. Never give up. William Laurent.

    Hi William,

Welcome to BP a s congratulations on your new Real Estate career. I'm telling you right now, NY and California are 2 markets that are not a great place for newbies to start. What you should do is find a Bigger Pockets meet up group, or A REIA to join. There you can ask questions and learn so much and be around other investors. I actually in a good area to start investing. Start looking for properties, you can use the BP yo find them. Once you find a few run them through the calculators on BP to see if they are good deal. This way you're getting practice. I hope they helps. Good luck.

    William,

You definitely dont need to leave FL to do deals.  FL has several metro areas with over 500k people and now consider all the sub-markets and suburbs within those areas?  You've done your research now what is your niche?  What's your budget? Have you built your team?  In other words, you've done your research, whats your next step? You have to take action.

I agree with @Elizabeth Sylvince, NY, CA and throw in NJ are not the optimal places for newbies.  There's opportunity in those place, but it can be very challenging.

    Best of luck.

    Marc

Hi @Marc Celestin, do you know anything about the Newark NJ market and how I can get some good comps in that area?  I'm looking at a few properties there and working on building a team there. Also, do you know some reputable, reliable, contractors?
